A 60-year-old man was remanded in custody for three days on Tuesday on suspicion of falsely reporting a car as stolen to collect the insurance.

The car in question belongs to a 34-year-old man currently in custody for similar cases and possession of 35 kilos of cannabis and 400 kilos of fireworks found in Limassol in December.

The 34-year-old had reported the car stolen on November 29, 2019, filing a €25,000 claim with the insurance company.

Police determined that the report was false after finding the vehicle in the possession of the 34-year-old’s company, but with number plates of a vehicle belonging to the 60-year-old.

The 34-year-old was also arrested as a formality. The pair could face charges relating to conspiracy to defraud, attempt to obtain money under false pretences, and money laundering.
