Coronavirus: new record number of checks, 206 booked

Police carried out 13,503 checks to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, a new record. The previous record of 12,842 checks was recorded on January 26.

From 6am on Tuesday until 6am on Wednesday 3,251 inspections were conducted in Nicosia, 4,494 in Limassol, 1,233 in Larnaca, 1,136 in Paphos, 1,169 in Famagusta and 725 in Morphou.

In addition, traffic police carried out 1,234 checks, the rapid response unit 217 and marine police 45.

As a result, 206 individuals, including six business owners, were fined, 17 for violating the overnight curfew, 33 for not sending an SMS for permission to leave their homes, 35 for being in a vehicle without the required permission, 41 for not wearing a protective mask in a vehicle, 68 for not wearing a mask in a public place and the rest for other offences.
