Road works on the second section of Makarios Avenue will start on Monday, the Nicosia municipality has announced.
From February 15 at 10am, Makarios Avenue, from Evagoras Avenue to Stasandrou Street, as well as a section of Stasandrou Street will be closed to traffic as part of phase B of the renewal of the Makarios – Stasikratous – Evagoras triangle.
According to the municipality, the duration of this part of the works will last approximately 10 months.
The works include the renewal of underground public utility services, constructing a new rainwater drainage system, construction of a new road and pavements, new street lighting and tree planting.
“Pedestrian access to all premises will continue unhindered,” the municipality’s statement said.
The project is part of the integrated mobility plan of the capital and will ultimately promote sustainable transport, reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
While works are in progress some roads will be turned into one-way street and others into dead end roads, the municipality explained.
Parking spaces in the area will be accessible to the public where possible, the statement added. Those who use private parking spaces to which access will not be allowed will be allocated temporary parking in municipal or other parking spaces.
Drivers are urged to be careful and follow signage.
