Push to promote western Larnaca

Larnaca Rural Tourism

Plans are underway to promote and develop businesses in western Larnaca, it was announced on Friday.

The Larnaca and Famagusta district development agency prepared a strategic cooperation proposal for the promotion and development of the area, the head of the Environmental Information Centre of Larnaca Mountainous Area and a member of the development agency Anna Kosma told the Cyprus News Agency.

“The aim is for all companies to participate in the effort to grow,” she added.

The businesses participating will have the opportunity to collaborate, organise their businesses and expand their market as well as introduce or expand technology and innovation in their companies.

“We hope that very soon we will be able to announce the relevant actions,” Kosma said.

The initiative followed the implementation of the pilot plan for the development of the mountain area of the district. The actions distinguished the area as an “Excellent European Destination for Cultural Tourism” in a European competition for destinations of excellence in the category of cultural tourism.

“The mountainous area of Larnaca is located at the centre of the three major cities of Cyprus, [and] it is an emerging tourist area with cultural wealth and hidden cultural treasures,” Kosma said.

Commenting on another pilot initiative which started last summer to promote domestic tourism in rural Larnaca, Kosma said “the initial successful results were already evident”.

The campaign participated by 18 communities, different businesses and the women’s association of rural Larnaca.

“A coordinated action had to happen to highlight this wealth and attract as much tourism as possible to develop the area, support local businesses directly related to tourism and promote local products,” Kosma explained.

Larnaca businesses interested in participating in the initiative should contact 24322020 or [email protected] for information.
