One death from the coronavirus and 113 new cases were announced on Monday.

The health ministry said the death was of a woman in Nicosia general hospital, aged 86, who had underlying health conditions. The total deaths attributed to Covid-19 is now 222 with the average age being 79.

Eighty-six people are in hospital of whom 25 are in serious condition, the ministry said.

The new cases were identified via 35,164 tests (with a positivity rate of 0.32 per cent) of which 2,066 were PCR tests and the remaining 33,098 were rapid tests.

The rapid tests detected 64 positives while the remaining PCR tests identified 34 from 311 done via contact tracing, two from 803 airport tests, eight from 470 tests taken privately, three from 263 which were done at general hospitals’ labs and, finally, two from 526 rapid tests taken privately.

None of the 219 tests taken after referrals by GPs returned positive.

Limassol, once again, had the highest positivity rate from the rapid tests with 8,333 tests taken and 44 positives yielding a rate of 0.53 per cent.

Next was Larnaca with a rate of 0.21 per cent, followed by Famagusta with 0.14 per cent. Nicosia and Paphos both registered a positivity rate of 0.04 per cent.
