Coronavirus: More than 9,000 checks, 110 booked

In the last 24 hours police carried out 9,686 checks for violations of coronavirus protocols and booked 110 individuals including one business owner for offences.

According to a police spokesperson, 2,078 inspections were conducted in the Nicosia district, 1,634 in Limassol, 1,583 in Larnaca, 1,204 in Paphos, 1,287 in Famagusta and 902 in the Morphou region.

In addition, traffic police carried out 944 checks and marine police 54.

Most of the violations occurred in Limassol, where 53 persons were fined.

On Tuesday night, police uncovered an illegal birthday gathering at a restaurant in Germasogeia and issued 14 fines, with the owner being fined €1,500.

The birthday party was attended by ten foreign nationals who were each fined €300 for breaking coronavirus health measures.

Three others sat at a table nearby were also fined €300 each.
