Two men arrested in suspected child abduction case (updated)

Limassol police HQ

Two men were remanded in custody for eight days on Friday on suspicion of trying to abduct a child in Limassol the previous day.

The suspects, 29 and 21, were arrested by police on Thursday evening after they were reported by a group of children, aged 11 and eight.

Limassol CID chief Lefteris Kyriacou said the kids were playing football in the old port area at around 7.40pm when they were approached by the suspects who asked to participate.

At some point, according to the children, the suspects asked the eight-year-old to follow them to their car.

The children fled and the issue was reported to police whose bicycle unit detained the pair.

The suspects deny any wrongdoing, claiming they only wanted to play football.
