Coronavirus: Covid-positive infant being treated at Makarios hospital

Makarios Children's hospital

A 28-day-old baby diagnosed with Covid-19 is currently being treated at Makarios hospital in Nicosia, director of the paediatric ward Avraam Elia confirmed on Tuesday.

The child was admitted to the paediatric ward on Monday after developing a high fever and was diagnosed with coronavirus shortly after, Elia told Sigma TV.

It is customary to keep any children under two months in the ward so they can be properly monitored and treated as their immune systems are still quite weak, he explained.

“The child is in a better condition than yesterday, with no fever, and we are hoping that she will fully recover, just like the rest of the children we have treated” Elia added.

Finally, Elia said that the paediatric ward at Makarios has treated around 40 children since the start of the pandemic.
