A 26-year-old man died on Saturday morning after the motorcycle he was riding had a head-on collision with another motorcycle, driven by a 27-year-old man.

The accident took place at around 9.30 am in a forest area in Kornos, police said.

Both men were taken to the Nicosia general hospital. The 26-year-old was pronounced dead while the 27-year-old is in serious condition.

Head of Larnaca police traffic unit, Haris Hadjiyiasemi, told the Cyprus News Agency that the accident took place near the Kornos picnic site where many motocross motorcycles gathered on Saturday.

He said that one of the two men was coming down a dirt road and was headed to the parking lot, but the other motorcycle was coming the opposite way.

“It seems that due to the altitude of the area, the two drivers did not see each other, and their motorcycles had a head-on collision,” Hadjiyiasemi said.

Despite the efforts of the doctors, the 26-year-old died, he said, while the 27-year -old suffered a leg fracture and injuries to various parts of his body and was admitted for surgery.

Hadjiyiasemi said this was an area where usually such motorcycles gather.
