Ournara 02

Three Syrian migrants were spotted in Liopetri on Tuesday afternoon after passing into government-controlled areas from the north police said.

Police arrived on the scene after Liopetri residents spotted the three men around 2.30 pm, where it was determined they were irregular migrants from Syria.

Investigations showed the men had travelled from Syria to Turkey, ending up in the north and finally passing to government-controlled areas on foot on Tuesday.

After they were spotted, they were escorted to the Golden Coast fishing shelter in Paralimni to undergo coronavirus tests.

They were then transferred to the Pournara migrant reception centre in Kokkinotrimithia.
