Two arrested for illegal stay on the island

Two people have been arrested in Paphos in connection to a case of illegal stay on the island.

According to the police, at 1pm on Sunday lunchtime a police patrol on Spyros Kyprianou avenue spotted two people, who after examination of their documents were found to be from Georgia.

The first arrived at Larnaca airport in 2019 and had a visa that expired in March 2019. He then applied for political asylum which was rejected, since when he has been illegally in the country.

The second also arrived via Larnaca airport and had a visa that expired in April 2019. The following month he received a form to apply for political asylum but never submitted it. Since then he has been living illegally on the island.

The two were arrested.
