€10,000 given to each animal shelter

The government will grant €10,000 to each animal shelter to help them upgrade to meet the minimum specifications set by law, Agriculture Minister Costas Kadis said on Thursday

Kadis said the grant was necessary for shelters to upgrade their facilities according to recently approved legislation to improve the living conditions of the animals.

The agriculture ministry said in a statement that the decision concerned shelters that did not benefit from a similar scheme last year.

Interested groups can submit their application at the veterinary services. More details will be given with the publication of the scheme soon, the ministry said.
