Paphos CID are investigating a case of attempted murder after a man was hospitalised with a broken leg late on Wednesday following an argument over a parking space.

According to the police, a 43-year-old man who had visited relatives at an apartment building in Chlorakas at around 9 pm, had argued with a 39-year-old asylum seeker over a space in the parking area of the building.

During the argument, the older man allegedly deliberately drove his car towards the 39-year-old and then fled the scene. The injured man was transferred to Paphos general hospital with multiple fractures to his right leg, police said.

After obtaining evidence against the 43-year-old man, police arrested him at around 1am on Thursday.

Police said they are investigating the case as attempted murder.

However, the suspect, despite admitting he was the driver of the car, denies he intended to kill the asylum seeker. He claimed that he drove off so as to put an end to the argument. Reports said the suspect is Greek Cypriot.

The scene was cordoned off by officers. The car of the suspect will also be examined.
