Cleaning and dancing in the park

earth is calling

Right in the centre of Aglantzia in Nicosia sits a large park with tall eucalyptus trees, a pond, various walking paths, kiosks and even a dog park. Traversing through Academy park’s many spots you find several charming corners – one sweet reminder of nature and the animal kingdom is a tiny wooden insect hotel. Yet in between the green nature and the animal residents of the park resides one more element. Trash.

In an effort to reduce waste and have a cleaner and healthier environment, the local initiative Earth is Calling is organising a clean-up event on Wednesday, June 9, but with a twist. Volunteers will meet at the park at 6.15pm to begin the clean-up and afterwards they are invited to take a free dance class by the Afrodance Studio which will be suitable for all levels.

Due to restrictions, there is a limited number of people allowed so those interested are advised to message the organisers to inform them about joining the clean-up, the class or both at Park Clean up & Free Class by Afrodance on Facebook.

Later on in the month, Earth is Calling is organising another clean-up event, this one by the beach. On Sunday June 20 the local initiative will be at a secret location in the Paphos district to remove from the beach whatever doesn’t belong there. The location will be revealed to those who sign up for the clean-up. This event is again a collaboration with other like-minded initiatives – Cyprus Girls Can and Yoga with Vicky. After the clean-up a donation-based yoga class will follow at the beach and again booking is essential.
