Several areas in the Nicosia district experienced power outage on Saturday morning for several hours due to damage to the electricity authority’s medium voltage grid.

According to EAC spokesperson Christina Papadopoulou the areas of Lakatamia, Archangelos and Anthoupolis up to Kokkinotrimithia, including the Nicosia Mall, were affected by the outage that occurred at around 11am.

The damage was restored in all areas by 2pm.

Papadopoulou told the Cyprus News Agency that, after crews went in the area, it emerged that the damage was due to a vehicle crashing into an electricity pole. As a result, she said, the cables got tangled and it took a long time to repair.

She urged people to immediately inform the EAC in cases of such accidents or damage to its equipment so that it can proceed with restoring the damage the soonest possible and avoid inconvenience to consumers.
