Photo competition marks 50 years of Cyprus-China friendship

To mark 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cyprus, a photo contest has been launched to enhance exchanges between Chinese and and Cypriot citizens, as well as boosting Chinese citizens’ understanding of Cyprus through various forms of picture content.

Through Cyprus in My Heart, as the competition is called, photographers, calligraphy and painting enthusiasts are invited to take part. A selection of photos under China-Cyprus Friendship will be exhibited every year. Each year, the theme of the competition will change to promote the development of China-Cyprus friendship.

Artists and photographers have until July 31 to submit their work to [email protected]. For participants entering the competition with photographs and short videos all about Cyprus, the process is rather straightforward. They can upload up to three high-resolution original.

Calligraphy artists and painters can hand in one or a group of no more than three works on the theme of Cyprus-China friendship. Painting, calligraphy works are submitted in the form of electronic jpg photos. These should be emailed to [email protected].

Another category of the competition is the collection of historical photos of the China-Cyprus relationship. Here participants are invited to submit photos related to China-Cyprus relations from 1971 to 2021. Agains these can be sent to [email protected]. The old photos provided are required to have the copyright, and be authorised for display and promotion.

The top ten in each category selected for the preliminary contest will receive certificates and trophies from the organising committee. Those who win the Gold Award will be given a €1,000 cash prize while the 20 selected for the semi-finals, for those participants living in China will get a five-day tour of Cyprus Island.

People living in Cyprus will be awarded mountain bikes, soy milk machines, rice cookers and other generous gift packages. Those who have been selected for the preliminary contest will receive commemorative prizes such as red wine and olive oil. And that’s not all. There is an Audience Comment Award for relatives and friends who participated in comments on works and shared this event.
