Human trafficking arrest as part of European-wide operation

One person has been arrested for human trafficking and eight possible victims were identified in Cyprus as part of a joint European operation by Europol.

The investigation was undertaken by the office for combating human trafficking in the operations that took place between May 31 and June 6.

The case is now before the Nicosia district court.

The law enforcement authorities of 23 countries took part in the Europol operations.

In total, 229 people were arrested, 73 for the specific crime of human trafficking, and 630 potential human trafficking victims were identified.
