Strovolos plays host to educational robot

robot 3 (strovolos)

One of the largest educational robots in the world, Astro 1, is on display in Nicosia until July 5, Strovolos municipality announced on Monday.

Visitors can find it at the Stavrou street and avenue Iosif Hatziiosif junction parking lot in Strovolos.

Astro 1 is an educational platform which combines robotics and space. The platform can show students how problem-solving transitions from theory into practice and receive live footage from micro-satellites they send into the stratosphere.

This project started three years ago with four students from Larnaca’s Pascal school’s Steam (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) education programme and has expanded since then.

Astro 1 weighs about 1,400kg, with a 10-metre perimeter and stands three metres tall. It moves with the help of 24 hydraulic motors. Its spider-like design allows it to move easily and be placed on any surface using minimal energy.
