The forestry department said Saturday a fire near the village of Mandria in the district of Limassol was caused by fireworks.

The fire started at 10.20pm but firefighters managed to put it out 30 minutes later, before it spread any further.

Authorities believe it was started by fireworks that were being used at the time.

The department appealed to the public once more to be extra careful and avoid any actions that could start a fire.
