Street art for climate and social justice

street art event

Street art always has something to say, whether it is highlighting important characters of the city, or critiquing socio-political issues. In recent years, the walls in numerous Cypriot locations have hosted splashes of colour and graffiti as a shift in perspective means that more people value street art now and what it can represent for its citizens and its city. An upcoming event wants to create a new mural in the old town of Nicosia with the aim to raise awareness in the Cypriot community about social and environmental problems.

On Friday organisations Youth for Action & Sustainability, Allospos, and YEU Cyprus are meeting in the old town and are inviting more people to join them to create a new mural that will consist of three different images created in the last three months. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the process of painting the mural, but also in the creation of their own stencils.

Organisers and participants will meet at the parking space between Pericleous and Apollonos street at 5pm to kick off their street art creation. Along with stencils and painting, stickers will be distributed to participants with nine different designs, which have been created by the team during the project, to spread the message they are trying to raise even more.
