Coronavirus: Police book 58 people for health and safety violations

Police booked 58 people the last 24 hours for breaching coronavirus protocols, mostly in Nicosia.

The violations were reported after 2,575 checks island-wide between 6am on Tuesday and 6am on Wednesday.

Nicosia police carried out 829 checks and booked 30 people, Limassol officers booked 17 people after 391 checks, while another four were booked in Larnaca after 410 checks. Three people were booked in Paphos after 236 checks.

An employee who failed to wear a face mask, as well as three other people were also booked in Ayia Napa by Famagusta officers who carried out 304 checks.

No violations were reported in Morphou after 78 checks nor by the traffic and marine police who carried out 314 and 13 checks respectively.

Apart from the face mask mandate, police were checking whether people had a SafePass, a document required to visit certain venues.
