The University of Cyprus (UCY) has established a new Europe Direct centre at the Stelios Ioannou library, aiming to provide information about the European networks operating in Cyprus.

The inauguration ceremony was held last week by the head of the delegation of the European Commission in Cyprus, Ierotheos Papadopoulos together with the rector of the University of Cyprus, professor Tassos Christofidis.

In a written announcement, UCY said that the newly established centre aims to provide information on the priorities and directions of the European Union and the actions of the European Commission and the European Parliament.

The centre, whose offices can be found at the learning resource centre and library of UCY, will also update students on funding opportunities from various European programmes, but also how to find material on research and innovation, education and training.

Another important goal is to provide sufficient information to European citizens about their rights, as well as the opportunities that exist at European Union level, the announcement added.
