78-year-old killed in traffic collision in Xylofagou

A 78-year-old man died after the moped he was driving collided with a car in Xylofagou at around 9:45am on Thursday.

This was the third road fatality in the past three days.

Police named the victim as Yiannakos Nikolaou and said his family have been notified.

Police said that under conditions which are being investigated, the 78-year-old had gone on to a main road from a side street and had collided with a car driven by a young woman.

He was taken by ambulance to Famagusta General Hospital where doctors certified his death.

Police investigations continue.

On Tuesday night another fatal accident occurred in the area while a 19-year old man died in Larnaca on Tuesday evening after the car he was driving crashed into an electricity pole and a wall.
