A 30-year-old man who admitted to assaulting his younger roommate with a knife was arrested early on Thursday in Kato Paphos.

According to the police, the suspect and his 20-year-old roommate were involved in a verbal argument on Posidonos avenue around 3am on Thursday. During the fight, the older man injured the 20-year-old in the abdomen with a knife.

The victim was transferred to Paphos general hospital, where he was admitted to the operating theatre. He was kept for further treatment, but his condition is described as stable.

The 30-year-old is under investigation for causing serious bodily harm and causing a disturbance.

During his statement to the police, he admitted to his offences, Paphos police spokesman Michalis Ioannou told the Cyprus News Agency.

Paphos CID are combing the scene for evidence and are questioning nearby residents.

An eyewitness has already given a statement to the police, saying they saw the 30-year-old assaulting his roommate with a knife, Ioannou said.
