A 35-year-old woman was arrested after attempting to leave the island by presenting someone else’s passport at Paphos airport, police said on Wednesday.

According to police, the woman arrived on Tuesday at the airport for departure to Mykonos and presented a French passport during the check.

Suspicions were raised that the photo did not match the passport holder and the woman was detained.

She was taken to the CID where she admitted that she originally comes from the Congo and that she is 35-years-old.

The woman refused to tell officers how she came to be in possession of the passport.

She was arrested and it was later determined that she is a political asylum applicant.

In recent days, authorities said 18 people were found to be carrying forged documents while trying to travel to France and Italy.
