A drunk driver drove against traffic and caused a collision late on Tuesday in Larnaca while two other drivers were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol in Nicosia and Paphos early on Wednesday.

A 22-year-old woman entered the wrong lane on Makarios avenue in Kiti around 9pm, and collided with a car coming in the opposite direction driven by a 48-year-old woman which then crashed into a parked car.

The three cars involved in the accident suffered extensive damage.

No injuries were reported according to the police.

The 22-year-old tested positive in an alcohol test with a final indication of 110mg instead of the maximum limit of 9mg for new drivers.

Police said they took the young woman home, while she is expected to appear in court later on Wednesday.

Another driver was stopped for a check in the Limassol – Nicosia motorway near GSP stadium a few minutes after midnight on Wednesday.

The 54-year-old tested 97mg instead of the maximum 9mg.

Police did not specify why the maximum alcohol limit for the man was set at 9mg instead of 22mg for experienced drivers.

A third driver, a 20-year-old man was also found speeding while drunk at 1.15am in Tombs of the Kings avenue in Paphos.

The man was initially stopped for driving at 102kph instead of 50kph that was the maximum speed limit of the specific road, and he then tested positive in an alcohol test.

He was released to appear in court, police said.
