Xarkis Festival 2021 calls for volunteers

october xarkis festival team

Xarkis Festival returns this year though not during the summer months like its previous editions but in the autumn. The 2021 festival will take place on October 15, 16 and 17, with a Multi-Residency Program too. With preparations in full swing for the festival in Lympia, the Xarkis team has launched an open call for volunteers to be part of the festival that this year explores the theme of ‘Going Back to the Roots: Environment and Society’.

“This is an opportunity for you to participate in an interdisciplinary setting that involves artists, cultural actors and local community members experimenting under this theme,” says the Xarkis team. “As a volunteer, you are a vital member of our team. Your involvement in this energetic and creative environment will contribute to the build-up of a unique cultural experience. We invite you to become a volunteer and actively participate in the realisation of an impactful Residency and Festival.”

This call is directed towards individuals with an interest in community-oriented and socially engaged cultural events, and to get involved in projects that deal with society, the environment and culture more widely. Volunteers from any of the following backgrounds – and not only – are encouraged to apply: design, technical coordination, event coordination, production management, performing arts, socially engaged art and visual arts. Also welcome to join are volunteers involved with arts management and the creative industries, culture, heritage, crafts-making, natural sciences, environmental studies, upcycling, permaculture, natural building, social sciences, non-formal education and culinary arts.

Τo apply, interested volunteers should contact the Xarkis team with a single PDF including a motivational letter of a maximum of 200 words and a brief biography of similar length. Applications should be sent to [email protected] by September 5.

The selected volunteers will be needed between October 10 and 18 and will be offered accommodation in a communal setting and in shared rooms, three meals per day from the festival’s collective kitchen and free entrance to all festival activities. Upon completion of their full participation, volunteers will receive a certificate of participation at the end of the event. The volunteers’ team is required to attend three volunteer meetings before the October event in September and October and to stay for the entire duration of the programme.
