New head of Paphos police Nicos Tsappis took full charge on Wednesday, taking over from Nikos Pentaras, who had been in the post since 2017.

“My aim is to produce tangible results in the fight against corruption and crime,” Tsappis told the Cyprus Mail.

“I am determined to further strengthen the relationship of mutual trust between the Paphos police and the community. This is critical to maintaining public safety and effective policing.”

Tsappis, a native of Paphos, is respected for his honesty, extensive experience and training abroad (Greece, UK, Germany, USA).

In his handover address, Pentaras wished his successor well and said that after four and half years, he was retiring from his post with his head held high. “My goal was to serve the local community, and to improve police-public rapport,” he said. “I am confident I achieved this.”
