A fire, which broke out at 7.20pm in an area of Katydata village in the Nicosia district, was brought under full control at 8pm

A fire that appears to have been set deliberately damaged the premises of a courier company a little after midnight, the fire service said on Thursday.

Fire fighters were notified of the incident in Deftera area, a few minutes before 1am.

Members of the police and the fire department who rushed to the spot found that the fire had extinguished itself. First signs indicate that the fire was the result of arson.

“It is being investigated whether this was done using an explosive device, possibly a Molotov cocktail,” a police spokesman said.

Some damage was caused to the property, but the value has not yet been estimated.

The circumstances that led to the fire are being investigated by the police.
