Larnaca Municipality is pressing ahead with its development plans for the new park “Salina” that include the construction of a pond, a bridge, a snack bar, and a children’s play area.

The “Municipal Park Salina has been designed by architect Elena Sofianou Olympiou who won the relevant public competition.

“According to the plan two main entrance gates, will be created. After the main entrance gate on Leonida Kiouppi Street, an entrance leads to a palm tree garden and the stands which will be erected in an amphitheatrical shape,” Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras told the Cyprus News Agency on Monday.

Salina Park will be created around the former residences of the district office and Larnaca police chief, both of which are listed buildings, and will be a core aspect of green development within the city.

Vyras noted that the project’s main purpose is to protect the area through the planting of new trees, the reduction of hard surfaces such as vehicle lanes and parking, overlapping uses such as the dual use of the alley as a pedestrian and controlled traffic lane. The promotion of the preserved buildings is also a priority.

Regarding the existing trees in the area, the mayor said that these will remain, while endemic and native species will be added.

The project is estimated to cost around €1m.
