The European Week of Sports brings cheerleading and more to Larnaca

#BeActive. That’s the slogan of the European Week of Sports, when thousands of professionals and experts come together for one of the biggest sports initiatives of the world. Led by the European Commission and local partners, dozens of events are underway in Cyprus.

On Wednesday Emilia Salouta’s Cheerleaders will welcome old and young to a fun session getting a taste of this popular sport – cheerleading. Starting at 6.30pm at Europe Square in Foinikoudes, Larnaca, children and adults will get to try the sport and explore what is behind these synchronised, timely dances and its impressive jumps and figures. The class will last for one hour and is completely free.

An hour earlier, a basketball game for children aged 8 and 9 years old will be held at the American Academy School, lasting from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. Over at the Prodromou Elementary School an open pilates class for all will take place at 6.30pm exercising muscle strength, flexibility, balance and working on the principles of the sport. While that is happening, a group cycling ride will take off from Europe Square at 7pm passing by Foinikoudes, the old town and returning to the centre. Only 50 cyclists can take part in this activity and bookings must be made by texting your name, date of birth and the activity to 99-817979.

Two more events will be held in Larnaca on the final day of the Week. A ping pong game for children is organised for Thursday morning at Prodromou Elementary School. From 7.30am until 11am, children will be introduced to this fun game and sport and will have the chance to give it a go. Lastly, a functional circuit training class at the Prodromou Elementary School starting at 7.15pm. The class will be made up of short exercises with brief breaks before moving on to the next and then repeating the cycle – a training used for muscle strengthening and fat burning.
