Merkel reiterates support for Anastasiades

Outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel reiterated her country’s support for President Nicos Anastasiades’ efforts to find a resolution to the Cyprus problem, the presidency announced on Friday.

The presidency said Merkel wrote to the president and praised his actions which “aim to benefit Cyprus”.

It further stated that Merkel praised the handling of the pandemic and the financial crisis in its wake, while also wishing Anastasiades find success in resolving the Cyprus problem.

“Germany supports the efforts of the president of the Republic in seeking a just and sustainable solution in Cyprus,” the communication read.
