Two Greek Cypriot soldiers missing since the invasion are reportedly buried in the garden of a house in Varosha, according to Turkish Cypriot newspaper Yeni Duzen.

The report focuses on information relayed by a reader whose relative said that two to three Greek Cypriot soldiers were on top of the Anorthosis football clubhouse and opened fire on Turkish soldiers as they entered Varosha in August 1974. When the Turkish troops reportedly returned fire one of the Greek Cypriots died and another was critically wounded and was later shot.

The Turkish commander then ordered that the two Greek Cypriots be buried, with their bodies now reportedly located in a garden opposite the Anorthosis clubhouse.

The journalist, Sevgul Uludag, said that the reader hopes that the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) may be able to gain access to the area now that more parts of Varosha are being reopened.
