rescue

Authorities on Monday reminded the public that diving at the sea caves in Cape Greco is prohibited, after four people had to be rescued by a helicopter from the area over the weekend.

The Larnaca search and rescue coordination centre received information that three women and one man were in danger at the sea caves in Cape Greco, Famagusta at around 3.40pm on Sunday.

The centre contacted the police aviation unit, which diverted the Achilleas helicopter that was in the area for the rescue.

The group was handed over to the ambulance services, who were also called to the scene.

All four were examined at the site by the nurses who concluded their injuries did not require additional treatment at the hospital.

The joint rescue coordination centre, fire service, and lifeguards also participated in the rescue.

The Larnaca search and rescue coordination centre reminded the public that approaching and diving at the sea caves is strictly prohibited.

The decision was taken by competent state services after an inspection by the department of geological survey which found the soil dangerous due to increased erosion.
