Staffing issues cause long lines at Larnaca airport

Queues at departures at Larnaca airport on Saturday

The long queues at the Larnaca airport’s departures terminal on Saturday were down to a problem at the immigration and security checks, the airport’s managing company Hermes said.

After complaints of long lines at departures, a Hermes spokesperson told the Cyprus Mail that the delay was a result of staffing issues at the immigration and security desks.

Queues reached all the way from the entry to the departures terminal through passport control.

“Efforts are underway to ensure the best possible flow of passengers,” the spokesperson said.

The airport is usually busy on weekends with many inbound and outbound flights scheduled within minutes of each other, but the situation has exacerbated the problem.

Minor delays were recorded in some flight departures of between 15 and 35 minutes.
