Ten years for drug smuggler

Nicosia central prisons

Paphos criminal court on Friday sentenced a 25-year-old man to 10 years in prison after finding him guilty on drug related charges, police said.

The man was arrested on August 14 on arrival at Paphos Airport after more than 23 kilos of cannabis were found in his luggage.

The man had flown to Paphos from Greece. A search of the luggage uncovered 40 bags with the drugs inside and he was arrested and remanded in custody.

Police had said at the time that the man had told them the drugs were given to him by people he did not know in Thessaloniki to bring them to Cyprus for a fee. He also said he did not know who they were to be delivered to.
