Parliament to stay at Philoxenia until mid-2022

Party leaders decided on Monday that parliament will remain housed at the Philoxenia conference centre until July 2022.

The House moved there last year because it was impossible to apply health and safety measures against the coronavirus, because of the smaller size of the committee rooms in the old building.

The current lease expires in December.

Nicosia mayor Constantinos Yiorkadjis warned in September that moving parliament permanently from the centre of the city would create serious problems to the capital, including harming efforts to revitalise areas neighbouring the buffer zone.
