Traffic to be diverted as Larnaca hosts Radisson Blu marathon

Around 500 athletes from 72 countries will take part on Sunday in the Radisson Blu Larnaca International Marathon.

Participants can run the full 42 kilometres if they wish to, or the half marathon, or smaller races between 5 and 10 kilometres.

The countries with the most participants are Greece, Israel, Russia, Ukraine and Poland.

Traffic arrangements will be made during the event.

From 6am on Sunday, the following roads will be closed to traffic:

  • Part of Athinon Avenue at the junction with Makarios Avenue.
  • The avenues of Makarios, Tassos Papadopoulos, and Demetris Christofias (Larnaca Nautical Club roundabout, B3 Dhekelia road).
  • The road toward Dhekelia from the Nautical Club roundabout to Larnaca.
  • Zenonos Kitieos street, Nicolaou Rossou street, Mehmet Ali Street at the junction with Umm Haram street, Umm Haram street at its junction with Pontou street.
  • Piyale Pasha street and Tasos Mitsopulos Avenue
  • One lane of Artemidos Avenue from the Tasos Mitsopoulos Avenue traffic lights up to the airport (the other one will be turned into a two-direction lane).
  • The road will be closed to vehicles from Artemidos Avenue to the Hala Sultan Mosque & from the airport control tower roundabout toward the airport roundabout, including the Timiou Prodromou street up to its junction with October 28 Street up to the industrial area.
