Four businesses were fined a total of €9,500 in the 24 hours until 6am on Friday after a total of 2,302 checks for the correct implementation of coronavirus measures.

During the checks, 24 individuals were also fined, mainly for failing to wear a face mask, police said.

The highest number of checks were carried out, as usual, in the capital, where officers carried out 870 checks and fined eight people and one cafe for €4,000 after a customer was found without a SafePass.

Two businesses were also booked in Limassol after 247 checks, as well as six people. One establishment was issued a €4,000 fine for failing to carry out SafePass checks and the second was booked for €1,000 after the owner was found in the premises without a face mask.

In Larnaca, two people were fined after 493 checks as well as a bakery which was booked for €500 because the manager was found working without a SafePass.

Police said four people were booked in Paphos after 114 checks, and another four in Famagusta after 380 checks.

No violations were reported in Morphou during the daily checks, nor by traffic or marine police.
