Coronavirus: New post-Covid wing to open at Eden centre

The Eden resort in Tersefanou

A new wing will operate at the Eden Resort rehabilitation centre in Tersephanou for post-Covid patients, making Cyprus only the second EU country after Germany where such services are offered by the state, the health ministry said on Tuesday.

The new wing, aimed at decongesting state hospitals and offering better quality of care to post-Covid patients, will be officially inaugurated by the health minister and the ministry’s permanent secretary on Thursday.

“The post-Covid patients are negative to the virus, require rehabilitation and not additional treatment at a hospital, as they may have after-effects of the disease as regards their musculoskeletal and respiratory systems from their lengthy treatment at the hospital,” the ministry said.

The rehabilitation centre will be staffed with specialised medical and nursing professionals including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, a clinical psychologist and a clinical dietician.

The operation of the new rehabilitation wing will contribute significantly to reducing the time patients spend in hospital, freeing up beds for new patients.

The agreement with Eden Resort follows an open tender launched by the ministry. The centre complies with technical rules and internationally recognised standards, the ministry’s announcement concluded.
