Jail terms for cannabis possession

The Larnaca criminal court on Tuesday sentenced a 34-year-old and a 24-year-old to four years in prison, and a 52-year-old to one year in prison in cases concerning possession of 5.8 kilos of cannabis.

The 34-year-old was arrested in October after members of the YKAN drug squad found over two kilograms of cannabis in his car and 350 grams of cannabis at his home.

The 24-year-old man was arrested on the same day in the same area in Larnaca after failing to heed officers’ signal to stop. He abandoned the car and fled the scene before being found in a friend’s car and detained. He then led the drug squad to a hideout where he had previously placed about three kilograms of cannabis.

Finally, the 52-year-old, who was only given one year in prison by the Larnaca court, was also arrested for possession of cannabis after officers found 310 grams at his home following a tip-off.
