December rainfall so far reached 113 per cent of normal levels for the month

Rainfall in December reached 113 of normal levels, according to preliminary data published on Monday by the met office.

According to the data, the average total amount of rainfall from December 1 to the morning of December 27 amounted to 119.4 mm, compared with 105.6 mm, which is the normal average for the month.

The highest amount of rainfall during the period was recorded in the Larnaca airport area with 148.9 mm, which corresponds to 173 per cent of normal for December.

This was followed by Stavros i Psoka with 225 mm, or 139 per cent of normal, Polis with 133 mm or 133 per cent of the normal and Pano Panagia with 192.3 mm or 120 per cent of the norm.

The area that saw the least rain was Athienou with 46.9 mm or 78 per cent of normal levels.

Despite the recent heavy rains, the island’s reservoirs are on average 48 per cent full as of Monday.
