Coronavirus: Police shut down Paphos restaurant for violating decrees

Paphos police have shut down a business after it had repeatedly violated the government’s health and safety decrees aimed at stopping the spread of Covid, it emerged on Wednesday.

According to the district’s police chief, officers conducted an inspection of the restaurant in Kato Paphos last Thursday and reported the 46-year-old owner for failure to enforce health and safety regulations despite repeated warnings.

Police filed a case against the business in court on Monday and also sought and secured a closure order pending the hearing on January 18.

On Wednesday, police said it had reported seven individuals and seven businesses in the past 24 hours for violating health and safety measures.

Police said it carried out 3,141 checks, most in Nicosia – 1,733 – where no fines were issued.

In Limassol, officers reported one individual and four businesses during 328 checks with two individuals and one business booked in Larnaca in 162 checks. Two people were also booked in Paphos during 162 checks.

Four people and two businesses were reported in Famagusta during 313 checks, police said.

In the Morphou area, police carried out 123 checks without booking anyone.
