Due to adverse weather conditions in recent days, police on Friday advised the public to check the official police website for road closures prior to heading up the mountains.

The announcement came following several days of road closures and restrictions on the routes leading to the mountains as announced by police at www.cypruspolicenews.com under road network category, police’s twitter and Facebook accounts as well as the Cyprus Police (Astynomia Kyprou) application.

On Friday morning, police said that roads leading to Troodos as well as Pedoulas-Prodromou, Pedoulas Pinewood-Kakopetria, Kakopetria-Karvounas, Kakopetria-Spilia-Kannavia were only open for four-wheel drive cars and those equipped with snow chains.

In the Nicosia district, Palaichori-Agros, Palaichori-Askas, Askas-Fterikoudi, Fterikoudi-Alona, Alona-Platanistasa, Lagoudera-Xyliatos and Polystypos, Polystypos-Chandria, Pedoulas-Kykkos-Kambos, Orkonda-Kambos and Gouri-Macheras were also open only for four-wheel drive cars and those with snow chains.

Police urged drivers to be careful as all roads in mountainous areas are slippery due to frost.
