Scam warnings issued by tax department and postal service

The tax department and the post office warned the public on Friday about fraudulent messages claiming to have been sent by the authorities.

The tax department warned of a text message claiming the sender is TAXISnet, informing recipients that they have received a refund and asking them to access a webpage with the address “https:/t.ly/CYA9”.

These messages are not official correspondence from the tax department and recipients are asked to ignore them, it stressed.

It added that it only communicates from electronic addresses which end with @tax.mof.gov.cy.

Also on Friday, the postal service informed the public that messages sent through emails or sms for  payments to Cyprus Post, are fake.

Cyprus postal services told the public to first check whether they are actually expecting a delivery. The public should also check the sender’s email address and note that legitimate emails from the postal services end with @cypruspost.post.
