More stand-up comedy events

red comedy

The stand-up comedy trend has finally picked up in Cyprus as more and more comedians dare to take the stage. Most of the comedy nights are in Greek, with the odd English-language one happening, but nonetheless, it is encouraging to see a new category of events reaching popularity. In the upcoming weeks, four stand-up comedy nights are taking place in Larnaca, Nicosia and Limassol.

Coming up first is a stand-up evening at Savino Live on January 27 – a monthly event for the venue. Taking the stage are some new comedians with fresh material that hope to spread laughter. Andreas Athanasiou, Demetris Yiorkatzis, Chrystal Christofi and Zacharias Zannettou will be the four comedians of the night. Their two-hour show, which starts at 9pm, will include individual sets that touch on realistic issues of modern life, current events and everyday social encounters.

Zacharias and Chrystal will perform at another comedy night next month, this one in Nicosia and joined by another three stand-up comedians. RED Music Stage will host a comedy evening on February 4 featuring Costas Prigkipas, Mike Gerolemou, Pavlos Pavlides, Zacharias and Chrystal. Philosophical and hilarious questions will be brought forth in their sets ranging from motherhood, the secret societies of grandmothers and flashbacks to the 80s and 90s.

February’s next two comedy shows will feature a Greek comedian who specialises in one-liner jokes. Angelos Spiliopoulous will come to Cyprus for just two shows, one at Theatro Dentro, Nicosia on February 5 and another at Ravens Music Hall, Limassol the following evening. There he will present a new solo stand-up show in Greek titled To Fileto tis Agoras featuring his one-line jokes. Word games, tiny stories and observations told in a hilarious manner is what his new show is about. Hopefully, it will offer Cypriots some evenings full of laughter.
