One death, 2,815 new cases

One death from coronavirus and 2,815 new infections were reported on Monday out of 130,466 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 2.16.

The death was of a woman aged 87, who died at the Limassol general hospital on Monday.

The ministry said there were 221 people in hospital with the virus of whom 75 are in serious condition. Of them, 30 were intubated, four were treated in the ICU and the remaining 41 at the high dependency unit.

A total of 70.59 per cent of hospitalised patients were unvaccinated.

According to the announcement, the new cases were traced from 7,788 PCR tests and 122,678 rapid tests.

Most of them, 1,608 were detected after 68,691 samples taken at private labs and pharmacies, while 808 were traced after 53,987 tests at the free rapid testing sites of the health ministry.

Another 278 cases were detected after 3,034 samples taken from a private initiative, 52 from 3,573 tests at the airports, 35 after 467 from tests carried out for contact tracing purposes and four from 379 tests following a referral from a personal doctor or through public doctors.

The republic of Cyprus detected 238,773 coronavirus cases since the pandemic outbreak, of whom 713 died form he virus.

In the north, 442 people tested positive after 28,461 tests while four died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
