The met office on Wednesday announced that Cyprus would endure the Elpis weather system until late into the night while the chill is set to last until Saturday, but with steady improvements.

The afternoon is set to be overcast with occasional rainfall which may even give way to a storm, while snowfall is expected in the mountains.

Winds of three to four on Beaufort scale are expected inland but harsher winds of five are due on the windward coast and mountains.

On Wednesday night the weather in Cyprus is expected to remain in line with the forecasts with the afternoon, but with the temperature dropping to 0°C degrees inland, about 5°C on the west coast, 3°C on remaining coasts and -6°C at the higher regions.

Improvements are expected from the early hours of Thursday onwards, with greater sunshine but patches of cloud and isolated rain remaining a possibility. Inland areas can expect temperatures of 11°C, about 13°C along the coasts and 1°C in the higher mountain region.

The temperature is not expected to change much on Friday but by Saturday it is due to rise slightly, while remaining below seasonal averages, with a further increase on Sunday.
