Initial findings exclude foul play after body found in Chlorakas complex

Initial investigations following the discovery of a body in a Chlorakas apartment complex do not suggest foul play, state pathologist Angeliki Papeta said on Thursday.

The body, of a young man of African descent, has still not been identified.

Police said the body was found in early stages of decomposition at 11.25pm on Wednesday after a tip-off to the force.

Officers immediately cordoned off the scene, where examinations are carried out by Paphos CID and other criminal investigation officers as well as state forensic experts Papeta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou who carried out an autopsy on site.

Speaking to Cybc, Papeta said at first sight, it does not appear to be foul play as no obvious external injuries were found.

She added that a post-mortem is expected to be carried out in the coming days and if necessary samples will be taken for further tests.

The deceased was not a permanent resident of the apartment complex but had entered an apartment which had been vacated by the previous occupants, Cybc reported.

Police spokesman Christos Andreou said later in the day the expected post-mortem will reveal the exact cause of death.

He added the man’s identification might be done through DNA method due to the state of decomposition he was found.
