The health ministry on Monday issued a warning to consumers after some EU member states recalled batches of Ferrero’s Kinder Surprise eggs over a possible salmonella link.

Based on the information available so far, the affected product has not been shipped and released in Cyprus, the health ministry said, while it called on consumers to check the products they may have in their possession as “a precautionary measure”.

The specific batch that was recalled and might be contaminated with the common bacterial disease concerned individual package of 20g and package of 3 pieces x 20g eggs with a best before date between July 11, 2022 and October 7, 2022.

“If such products are found, consumers are advised to avoid consuming them,” the statement said.

Products marked with a barcode beginning with the digits ‘800’ and bearing the information ‘DISTRIBUTED FOR CYPRUS: CYPROPHARM LTD’ are not affected, it added.

Cyprus was notified about the precautionary recall of the chocolate eggs through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) and the European Food Safety Authority.
